The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have clinched a playoff spot with a 51-6 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Banjo Bowl. They join the Toronto Argonauts as the only two teams to have punched their postseason ticket so far, after the East Division leaders accomplished the feat earlier in the day.
Winnipeg avenged a 32-30 overtime loss to Saskatchewan in the Labour Day Classic with a decisive blowout. Zach Collaros completed 18-of-21 passes for 319 yards and five touchdowns, three of which were caught by second-year receiver Dalton Schoen. Running back Brady Oliveira rushed 18 times for 154 yards and added four receptions for 57 yards and a major through the air.
The Bombers sit atop the West Division standings at 10-3 ahead of the B.C. Lions (8-4) and Riders (6-6). Winnipeg was the first team to clinch a postseason berth in 2022 after starting the year with a record of 11-1.
This will be the seventh consecutive postseason appearance for the Bombers, a stretch that has included two Grey Cups wins and three straight appearances. The club record for most consecutive playoff berths was set from 1980 to 1996, totalling 17 seasons. The team made five Grey Cup appearances over that stretch, with three championship victories.
The Bombers (10-3) return to action on Saturday, September 16 when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (5-7).
