The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have moved veteran quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to the six-game injured list with an adductor injury.

Mitchell left during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field. He completed 16-of-24 pass attempts for 161 yards and two interceptions during the outing and was replaced by Matthew Shiltz, who will start against the Alouettes.

The 33-year-old was initially listed as a backup on the Ticats’ Week 3 depth chart despite the injury holding him out of practice, to remain in compliance with the CFL’s requirement to have three quarterbacks dressed. However, the Ticats announced the signing of American quarterback N’Kosi Perry hours before kickoff on Friday and will dress him instead.

The move will allow Hamilton significant cap savings, as Mitchell’s substantial per-game earnings of $9,761.11 will not count toward the salary cap until he is removed from the six-game.

Perry played in 24 games over the past two seasons at Florida Atlantic University, completing 425-of-717 pass attempts for 5,483 yards, 45 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while adding 198 carries for 408 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. The six-foot-four, 198-pound signal caller transferred from the University of Miami, where he completed 208-of-397 passes for 2,484 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while adding 111 rushing attempts for 217 yards and three touchdowns in 25 games.

Mitchell was one of many high-profile additions for the Ticats this past off-season following a decade-long run with the Calgary Stampeders during which he won two Grey Cups and two Most Outstanding Player awards. He has struggled out of the gate in Steeltown, throwing for 349 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions over two starts.

The Ticats (0-2) will kick off against the Alouettes (1-0) at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Montreal eliminated Hamilton from postseason contention last year, defeating them 28-17 in the East Semi-Final.
