Houston Texans wide receiver is unlikely to play in today’s Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills, reports Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Fuller has been dealing with a groin injury suffered in Week 16 and he is still suffering from “muscle tightness”.
Wilson further suggests that the MRI scan of Fuller suggested the injury was a three-week recovery window, so him playing in this game has always been a long shot for the Texans.
Kenny Stills is the next man up in the rotation, and he can be dangerous, but he hasn’t been as effective for Houston as the speedy Fuller. Stills was on the injury list early in the week, but practiced fully with his knee soreness on Thursday.
Fuller’s presence greatly enhances a dangerous Texans offense: with both Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins on the field, Houston scores 26.3 points per game, averages 296.8 passing yards per game, and converts nearly 52 percent of its third-down attempts. Without Fuller, Houston scores 19.6 points per game, averages 158.3 passing yards per game, and converts 32.9 percent of its third-down attempts.
Houston went 8-3 when Fuller suited up, compared to 2-3 in games he missed. On the year, Fuller, a 2016 first-round pick, has hauled in 49 passes for 670 yards with three touchdowns in 11 games.
The Bills and Texans kick off at 4:30 Eastern, which means inactives are due at 3 Eastern. We;ll know more then.
