Balance is hard to come by as a new parent, even if you’re a royal. Duchess Meghan recently told the press about the juggling act that is balancing her royal tour duties with caring for four-month-old Archie Harrison.
“I think the schedule — they have been very kind to me, because everything is based around Archie’s feeding times. So it’s a full plate,” she said, according to People. She was speaking after an Oct. 1 visit with the charity Action Aid, which seeks to end sexual violence in schools. She added, “we’re making it work,” and said the challenges are “worth it.”
Meghan stayed in South Africa with Archie during the tour, while Prince Harry visited various charities and organizations in Malawi, Angola and Botswana from Sept. 26 to Oct. 1.
“I think for us it has been a really special trip, because you get to see when you’re focusing on the causes that are really important to us, you can see that the impact is good, and it feels meaningful,” Meghan told reporters, adding she missed Harry “so much” and couldn’t wait to reunite with him.
The couple concluded their tour on Oct. 2 by stepping out to four events, including Meghan meeting Graça Machel, late former South African President Nelson Mandela’s widow.

Motherhood was a topic the 38-year-old discussed on several occasions during her time in Africa.
During a “Ladies Who Launch” luncheon, for example, she spoke candidly about the things she and other working moms can do to better society and increase equality for future generations.

“She talked about being a mother and having duties as a duchess and fulfilling what her heart desires — and that it can’t just fade away now that you’re a duchess,” Matsi Modise, founder of skills training company Simodisa, told People. “That you have to be true to who you are.”
She added: “You know the phrase, ‘If you have climbed a mountain, you’re the one who has the biggest to fall?’ You are the one who is ushering a path for everyone else. She spoke about how we have to keep pushing and going forward, knowing that you are doing it for others who will follow. She wasn’t referring to being a royal, but life in general when you have challenges.”
