ESPN updates Football Power Index after Week 7 - 247Sports

If you listen close enough, you could hear it reverberating across the South late Saturday afternoon.

Georgia lost.

South Carolina's shocking win between the hedges was college football's first jaw-dropping result inside the Top 5 this season, one that altered the Playoff picture after Week 7.

ESPN has updated its Football Power Index rankings at the midseason point with big-time expected changes expected inside the Top 15 of Sunday's AP Top 25, a few teams should exit the polls this week and others could be coming in.

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

One of Saturday's big results was LSU's taking out Florida, 42-28, to remain unbeaten at the top of the SEC alongside Alabama.

"We knew that last year they got after us up front. Our offensive line took that personally," Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow said, referencing last season's 27-19 loss to the Gators. "I was just so proud of those guys. There was no pressure the entire night."

From Nos. 25 to 1, here are the changes in ESPN's Top 25 after Week 7:
